Nalanda is going “Green” with Solar

E-mail Print PDF

In keeping with the times Nalanda College has initiated a project via Nalanda Junior Old Boys Association (NJOBA) to reduce our carbon footprint. A new four light solar system has been installed at Nalanda College as a pilot project.

Nalanda has always been “green”, trees-wise and we are probably one the “greenest” schools with the most number of trees in Colombo. Over the years these trees have been carefully protected and the importance of trees for protecting the environment has been imbibed into the multiple generations of Nalandians.  Now we are entering a new chapter by using Solar panels to power the energy needs of the school. The school electricity bill has been reaching new highs (total bill is above Rs 100,000/= per month) despite the subsidized rates provided by the CEB. As an initial project,  4 solar lights(10W) with a 100W solar panel and 100Ah battery has been installed and has been working since the 12th of April, 2016.
